About the Band

Basingstoke Concert Band is a traditional wind band that has been in existence since the 1970’s.
The band was started by Lawrie Shaw when Brighton Hill Community School opened in Basingstoke where he was the first head teacher. Lawrie formed the band as an evening class for enthusiastic amateur players and it was then known as the “Brighton Hill Centre Band”.

Basingstoke Concert Band

Since that time the band has come a long way and is now well-established and successful with around forty playing members under the leadership of Lauren Petritz-Watts. We perform various engagements throughout the year including charity concerts, bandstand concerts, and our own very popular Spring/Summer and Christmas Concerts.

We have also entertained passengers on the QE2 and P & O cruise ships on several occasions.
Our repertoire covers many different styles of music including light classical pieces, arrangements of music from shows and films, military music, and well-known dance band pieces.
